It started with one thing I didn't understand.
I wasn't trying to go anywhere with it. I just wanted to know. One question. Reasonable. Contained. And then the answer had a thread hanging off it and I pulled it, obviously, because that's what you do, and three hours later I was somewhere completely different from where I started and I couldn't tell you exactly how I got there.
Curiosity doesn't announce itself as dangerous. That's the thing. It shows up dressed as a perfectly innocent interest and then quietly dismantles several things you thought were settled.
I've lost friendships to it. Comfortable beliefs. A few versions of myself I was quite attached to.
I don't regret any of it.
There's a specific kind of person who can't leave things alone. Who reads the footnote. Who asks the follow-up question nobody else asked because everyone else was already satisfied. Who finds the official answer slightly suspicious and wants to know who wrote it and why.
These people are exhausting to argue with and essential to be around.
I got dressed today thinking about all of this. Picked something that felt like a question rather than a statement. Something open-ended. A graphic that doesn't conclude — it just points.
The most interesting outfit isn't the one with all the answers. It's the one that makes people want to ask.
