There's a kind of sad that doesn't stop you.
It just sits next to you while you do everything you're supposed to do. You make the bed. You answer the emails. You show up. It comes with you, quiet and uninvited, like a flatmate you never agreed to but can't legally remove.
I had one of those days last week.
Nothing happened. That's the thing people don't understand — sometimes there's no event, no trigger, no reason you can point to and say that's it, that's the one. It just arrives. Low battery. Grey around the edges. The world still running at full volume while you're somewhere slightly behind it.
I got dressed anyway.
Not because getting dressed fixes anything. It doesn't. But there's something about choosing what goes on your body when everything else feels out of your hands. It's small. It's almost embarrassingly small. But it's yours.
I picked the hoodie. The one that's soft enough to feel like a decision made in your own favour. Dark, easy, no explanation required. Not a cry for help. Not a statement. Just — I'm here. I showed up. That's enough for today.
Nobody asked how I was. The hoodie didn't invite the question.
That was exactly right.
I don't need the sad to go away to function inside it. I just need to be dressed for it honestly — not performing fine, not collapsing into it. Just wearing the day as it actually is.
Some days that's the whole win.
